The A’s agreed to terms with free agent slugger Manny Ramirez to a minor league contract Monday. What on earth is Billy Beane thinking? Could this be a future plot of Money Ball II? Who would play Manny in the movie? Granted the A’s are looking to fill their D.H. slot, but wouldn’t Johnny Damon be a safer choice? Ramirez has proven time and time again that he can be a major distraction both on and off the field. His former teammates have nothing but praise for his baseball talent, but some have grown tired of his childish acts. Clearly Beane is taking a chance that he can catch lightening in a bottle once Manny’s 50 game suspension is over. It remains to be seen however if the A’s will even be in the wild card race when Ramirez first steps foot in the batter’s box.
