The A’s agreed to terms with free agent slugger Manny Ramirez to a minor league contract Monday. What on earth is Billy Beane thinking? Could this be a future plot of Money Ball II? Who would play Manny in the movie? Granted the A’s are looking to fill their D.H. slot, but wouldn’t Johnny Damon be a safer choice? Ramirez has proven time and time again that he can be a major distraction both on and off the field. His former teammates have nothing but praise for his baseball talent, but some have grown tired of his childish acts. Clearly Beane is taking a chance that he can catch lightening in a bottle once Manny’s 50 game suspension is over. It remains to be seen however if the A’s will even be in the wild card race when Ramirez first steps foot in the batter’s box.
If you were the G.M. would you have taken a chance?
Watch a replay of the award winning show Red Sox Weekly with Rick Aronofsky. Rick’s guest on the program is Boston Herald sports columnist Steve Buckley.
Red Sox Weekly airs on WCTV in Wilmington Massachusetts.
John Smoltz made his much anticipated debut with the Red Sox last night with mixed results. He immediately gave up four runs in the first inning putting the Sox in a hole. Perhaps it was nerves, perhaps some rust, but Smoltz must improve upon this outing if he is going to help the Sox. Why were the Sox interested in Smoltz in the first place? His performance in post season play certainly played into the decision to sign him. Come October and November Smoltz will prove to us that Theo Epstein made a wise choice to bring him to Boston.
Welcome to my blog. This is a companion to my successful award winning cable access show of the same name. I air it out of the WCTV studios in Wilmington MA.
I hope to bring you the highlights of my shows, as well as my personal thoughts on our lovable Boston Red Sox baseball team.
